Arshad Mehmood is a prominent Pakistani composer, actor, singer, and educator, recognized for his extensive contributions to the country's television, film, and music industries. Born in 1960, he embarked on his professional journey in 1972 as a composer for Pakistan Television (PTV), notably debuting with the children's program "Akkar Bakkar Bambay Bo". Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Mehmood composed theme music and background scores for iconic PTV dramas such as "Aangan Terha," "Such Gup," "Tanhaiyan," and "Choti Choti Batein," significantly shaping Pakistani television's soundscapes. He also played a pivotal role at EMI Pakistan from 1976, where he worked as a music producer and talent promoter, launching the careers of notable singers like Nayyara Noor and Tina Sani. Beyond his musical prowess, Mehmood established himself as a versatile actor. He began his acting career in television during the 1970s, appearing in satirical sketch shows like "Such Gup" and later gaining recognition for his role as Chaudhry Sahib in the satirical series "Aangan Terha" (1984) and as Sajjad in the medical drama "Ankahi" (1982). His film debut came in 1999 with a supporting role in the family drama "Inteha," followed by appearances in films like "Khamosh Pani" (2003) and "Ho Mann Jahaan" (2016). Arshad Mehmood's influence extends to education as well. He served as the Program Director at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) in Karachi from 2005 to 2021, where he mentored aspiring artists. In 2023, he founded MoUSICi, a digital platform dedicated to promoting South Asian music and classical Urdu poetry. His significant contributions to the arts and entertainment were acknowledged with the Pride of Performance Award by the President of Pakistan in 2006.
